Product Description50-70 Government; excellent bore, excellent stock, 36'' barrel, Manufactured by Springfield Armory circa 1871-1872. Approximately 10,000 of these rifles were made under agreement with Remington. Marked on the right side of the frame with the U.S. Eagle motif over U.S./ SPRINGFIELD/1872 and on the left side of the frame MODEL 1871. The upper tang is stamped REMINGTON PATENTS over patent dates 1864 and 1868. The buttplate tang is stamped U.S. and a crisp U.S. inspectors cartouche appears on the left side of the stocks wrist. The barrel and bands are left in the white and the frame is casehardened. The barrel has a fixed front sight which doubles as a bayonet lug and a military ladder style rear sight. Complete with an original leather sling and the proper cleaning rod. The bright finished barrel has some minor spotting. The frame retains very generous original case color, with some minor spotting as well. The wood is overall excellent with a few minor handling dings and an area of light scratches on the toe of the buttstock. Mechanically fine. Antique.
